Christology Study Guide: The Complete Testimony of Scripture
SECTION 1: The Prehuman Existence of Christ — The Logos
Christ existed as the Logos, a created spirit being.
He was mortal in spirit nature, not divine or immortal.
Scriptures: Proverbs 8:22–31; Colossians 1:15–17; John 1:1–3.
As the Logos, He served as God’s agent in creation and revelation.
He was the angel who delivered the Law to Moses.
SECTION 2: Christ’s First Advent — Fully Human and Able to Die
The Necessity of a Human Ransom
Adam was a perfect mortal man.
Therefore a perfect mortal man was required to redeem his life.
Christ became fully human—flesh and blood.
Terms with misleading theological baggage are avoided.
Key Scriptures
Hebrews 2:14 — “Since the children are flesh and blood, He also Himself took part of the same…”
1 Timothy 2:5–6 — “The man Christ Jesus… gave Himself a ransom for all.”
Psalm 45:7–8 — A prophetic testimony showing Christ’s subordinate, anointed place during His earthly life.
Philippians 2:6–8 — Christ’s humility as a servant, not as a divine being during His first advent.
John 20:17 — “My Father and your Father; My God and your God.” Affirming His non-divine mortal condition.
SECTION 3: The Blood of Atonement — God’s Ransom Logic
Foundational Law
Leviticus 17:11 — The life is in the blood; blood makes atonement for the soul.
Apostolic Confirmation
Hebrews 9:22 — Without the shedding of blood there is no remission.
Christ’s Testimony
“This is My body, broken for you… This is My blood of the New Covenant, shed for you.”
Integration
Christ’s perfect human life fulfills God’s legal standard for ransom.
His blood provides the substitutionary life required for Adam’s race.
SECTION 4: The Lamb of God — Foreordained Before Creation
Foreknown Redeemer
1 Peter 1:19–20 — Christ as the Lamb foreordained before the foundation of the world.
Identified at First Advent
John 1:29 — “Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.”
Adam → Christ Parallel
Romans 5:18–19; 1 Corinthians 15:21–22, 45.
Adam: disobedience → death to all.
Christ: obedience → life to all.
SECTION 5: Christ’s Resurrection — The Moment He Became Divine
Resurrection Transformation
Christ was not divine before or during His earthly life.
He became divine when God resurrected Him.
Scriptural Witness
Acts 2:32–33 — Exalted to God’s right hand.
Romans 1:4 — Declared Son of God with power by resurrection.
Revelation 1:18 — "I was dead, and behold I am alive forevermore."
Result
Christ now possesses immortality, divinity, and all authority in heaven and earth.
SECTION 6: Christ’s Present Work — Judging Satan’s Throne and Gathering Sons
Destroying the Devil’s Works
1 John 3:8 — Christ’s mission includes dismantling Satan’s system.
Hebrews 2:14 — Through death He renders powerless the one holding the power of death.
Building God’s House of Sons
Believers share Christ’s sufferings and fill up His afflictions (Colossians 1:24).
They walk in His footsteps and will share His glory as joint-heirs (Romans 8:17).
Their glorification occurs when they pass beyond the veil in death.
SECTION 7: The Future Mediatorial Reign of Christ — King and Priest After Melchizedek
Prophetic Foundation
Psalm 110 — "Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies your footstool."
Christ is appointed by Yahweh to a future rulership.
Scriptural Development
Hebrews 5–7 — Christ is a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.
This is a role not yet activated.
Future Responsibilities
Christ’s mediatorial reign begins after the completion of the Church.
He will mediate between God and mankind during the Kingdom age.
He will restore humanity to perfection and obedience under divine law.
SECTION 8: The Complete Testimony — Yahweh’s Perfect Redemptive Plan
Summary
Christ the Logos: created, mortal spirit; God’s agent.
Christ the Man: perfect mortal human; the ransom.
Christ Resurrected: divine, immortal, possessing all authority.
Christ Now: dismantling satanic powers; assembling God’s sons.
